Elliptical concrete stairs - Tramore, Co. Waterford, Ireland

Elliptical concrete stairs - Designed, manufactured, prefinished and installed in Tramore, Co. Waterford, Ireland.

Featured in the Irish Times and Home and Design magazine, a 200 year old coach house in Co. Waterford with a lofty contemporary interior with original walls and timbers left bare. The property's most dramatic feature is its striking ribbon-like reinforced concrete staircase that soars up to the roof like an art installation.
This architecturally designed elliptical concrete balustrade stairs with floating solid oak steps was a very interesting and technical project for AJD Stairs.
The stairs was first set out to suit the entrance hallway and then shuttered, steel fixed and poured with concrete. It was then let to cure, shutter was striped and solid oak treads and risers were cantilevered from the structural balustrade wall. The treads and risers were left 75mm from the existing 19th century walls and the structural concrete balustrade wall was just painted as the concrete was perfectly formed. It was great to engineer and manufacture this complex staircase from start to finish.
